The processing method and airtight storage system mean canned and jarred foods can stay fresh for years! For us plant-based folk, it can be hard (and expensive) to keep our fridges stocked up with enough fresh produce, and have the time to prepare it. With canned and jarred foods, you can rely on your pantry for quick, delicious, and nutritious plant-based meals.
With a well-stocked store cupboard full of your favorite canned and jarred foods, you’ll always have the makings of a meal. Combine canned chickpeas with canned coconut milk, along with some warming spices and you’ve got a curry. Add your favorite jarred olives to jarred pasta sauce, cook some noodles, and voila - an Italian feast awaits! With a few cans and a kick of spice, a three-bean chili is yours for the scoffing. If the apocalypse comes and you’re trapped in the pantry, you’ll probably be fine!
Here at PlantX, we’ve got an amazing range of organic, low sodium, and sustainable canned and jarred foods to line your shelves and fill your belly!
Canned Veggies
Versatile, nourishing and convenient, canned veggies are a must for any plant-based pantry. Veggies for canning are picked in their prime and canned within hours of picking. This preserves plenty of the essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients you get from fresh produce.
While it is true that the heating process does diminish some vitamins, some antioxidant properties are actually increased! For example, canned tomatoes contain more beneficial lycopene than fresh ones.
While you should eat a balance of fresh, frozen and preserved produce, canned veggies are certainly a great store cupboard staple. A stash of canned peas, mushrooms, tomatoes, corn, spinach, carrots, and more makes it easy to boost your veggie intake in the twist of a can opener!
PlantX Top Tip: Canned veggies work best in stews, soups, and sauces - warming, satisfying dishes where you want everything to be soft and succulent. Save your fresh ingredients for salads and stir-fries where you need that extra crunch!
Canned Fruit
From mango and pineapple to peaches and lychees, with canned fruit, you’ve always got a sweet, juicy (and healthy) treat on hand. Canned fruits are picked at the height of ripeness, preserving all those rich, refreshing flavors, as well as plenty of essential vitamins.
Rather than relying on tropical imports out of season, canned fruits are convenient, sustainable, and delicious! Perfect for baking, smoothies, desserts, or even salads or curries, opt for our fabulous range of organic canned fruits in fruit juice, free from nasty corn syrup or added sugar.
PlantX Top Tip: Why not try making a sweet, refreshing mango lassi with our organic canned mango chunks and some creamy coconut or soy yoghurt. Whizz together, add a squeeze of lemon juice, and enjoy!
Canned Beans & Legumes
Versatile, nutritious and filling, canned beans and legumes are one of our favorite vegan staples. If you’ve got a can of beans, lentils and chickpeas, you’ve got the makings of a satisfying, nutritious meal. Plus, we don’t always have time for the lengthy soaking and boiling needed for cooking dried beans.
Canned beans and legumes allow us to enjoy that belly-warming protein punch whenever we fancy. Stock up on store cupboard staples like canned chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans, and a whole world of salads, stews, soups, dips, curries and more awaits you!
PlantX Top Tip: Travel the world in a can. Most countries have staple beans and legumes so be sure to dress yours in the appropriate global flavors. Meet the Middle East with chickpeas, or Mexico with black beans, and explore India with lentils or Italy with cannellini beans.
Jarred Antipasto
From olives, capers, and artichoke hearts to sun-dried tomatoes and roasted red peppers, jarred antipasto is the Italian prince of the pantry. These luxurious extras elevate your meals, adding rich flavors and exciting textures. Here, the preserving process not only keeps intact but also enhances the qualities of the raw ingredients, bringing them to life with oils, herbs and spices.
Jarred antipasto products are perfect for keeping up your sleeve to transform a store cupboard weeknight dinner into a flavorful feast. For jazzing up pizzas, pasta, salads, and sauces, our range of authentic, Mediterranean-inspired, shelf-stable delicacies is a must.
PlantX Top Tip: Use the herb-infused oil used to preserve your jarred antipasto for salad dressings or sauteing to add a rich, savory depth. Waste not, want not!
Jarred Sauces
We lead busy lives, we’ve got hungry mouths to feed and we don’t always have time to whip up sauces from scratch. Jarred sauces are the answer to nutritious, delicious plant-based meals that don’t take hours to prepare.
Unlike many jarred sauces on the market that are packed with sugar, sodium, and preservatives, our amazing range of jarred sauces is just like homemade, simmered slowly with fresh, simple ingredients. Whip up a pasta marinara, a Thai coconut curry, or a vegan tikka masala in minutes, perfect for the whole family. With a jar of sauce on your side, you’re sorted!
PlantX Top Tip: To add a plant-powered boost to your jarred sauce, add in a handful of fresh, frozen, or canned veggies. To amp up the flavors, try adding hot pepper flakes, fresh sizzled garlic, or a scattering of fresh herbs.
