Fig Tree (ficus Lyrata, Fiddle Leaf)
ABOUT FIG TREE
Originally from western Africa, Fig Trees, also known as Fiddle Leaf Figs, help your space achieve a warm tropical look with its lyre-shaped leaves. Besides the aesthetic appeal of these plants’ glossy dark green leaves, Fig Trees make for the perfect house plant thanks to their tough and hardy nature, allowing it to cope with less-than-perfect conditions.
Our Fig Trees come in a 5″ nursery pot and stands between 8″ to 12″ inches upon arrival.
Fig Trees thrive in tropical conditions. You can recreate these by placing your Fiddle Leaf Fig in bright, filtered light and misting regularly to increase the ambient humidity.
Although Fig Trees come from tropical rainforests, they do not enjoy sitting in water as this can cause root rot. Also, a lack of humidity can cause browning on your Fig Tree’s lush foliage.
Fiddle Leaf Fig’s broad leaves will help with air purification, elimination of dust, and humidity control which in turn can help prevent health problems such as colds, sore throats, and coughs.
LOOKING AFTER THE PLANT
The worst thing to do is over-water your Fig, so wait until the top 2 inches of soil is dry before further watering. Fig Trees do not have a strong need for fertilizer, but feeding your plant with a diluted liquid fertilizer every month during the growing season (Spring to Autumn) is preferred. Apply the fertilizer at half the rate recommended on the label.
PLANT CARE WITH PETS AND CHILDREN
The sap of the Fig Tree is toxic to both pets and children and may cause oral irritation, excessive drooling, and vomiting upon ingestion. Keep away from nibbling pets and children.
