Alocasia ‘Pink Dragon’ has earned its name. This beautiful plant boasts pale pink stems with a dark purple colour on the underside and a muted emerald green with a slight blue undertone colour on top. Any glimpse you catch of this plant will be different at all angles. Place your Alocasia ‘Pink Dragon’ in a place with bright, indirect light.

PlantX Top Tip: Just like all alocasias, you may notice a dormant period which means the leaves will drop and fade - this is a reaction to low water levels and seasonal changes.

How to Care for Alocasia 'Pink Dragon’

Light: Bright indirect light. Leaves are sensitive and can burn easily from direct light or hot temperatures. Alocasias will move their leaves towards the light in undesirable low light levels.
Water: The soil should remain evenly damp to moist. Alocasias will dramatically arc their stems when they require more water.
Humidity: Average relative humidity of 25% to 49%
Temperature: Average from 18°C to 24°C (65°F - 75°F)
Fertilizer: Follow a monthly fertilizing schedule when the plant is actively growing. In most cases, this is in the spring and summer. Use a balanced fertilizer - this means a ratio of NPK that is all the same. Ex: 10-10-10.
Soil: Use a well-draining, high organic matter soil mix.
Propagation: Division or by separating corms
Repotting: This can be done every 12-18 months. Choose a pot that is 2” larger in diameter than the original pot.
Cleaning Tip: Gently wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dust. Remove yellowing leaves right away.
Toxicity: Toxic. Keep plants away from pets and children.

Alocasia 'Pink Dragon’ - Common Problems

Why are there spots on the leaves: This can be a number of problems. Assess your environmental conditions - is the plant receiving too much direct light? If so, move the plant away from that location and place it in a spot with bright, indirect light. Check for pests such as spider mites. Does your tap water have high amounts of chlorine? Try collecting rainwater or use distilled water.

The leaves on my plant have brown tips, what happened: Increase the relative humidity to prevent browning leaf tips. You can do this by regular misting or installing a humidifier.

Why does my plant continually lose its leaves: As a plant ages, the leaves will turn yellow and die. This is a natural process that cannot be prevented. Enjoy your plant and know that it will not be perfect all the time.

Signs of Overwatering: New growth becomes soft and brown and the leaves begin to drop.

Common Pests: Susceptible to spider mites

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you take care of Alocasia Pink Dragon? Place your Alocasia in a location with bright indirect light. The leaves are sensitive and can burn easily from direct light or hot temperatures. Alocasias will move their leaves towards the light in undesirable low light levels. The soil should remain evenly damp to moist. Alocasias will dramatically arc their stems when they require more water.

How do you propagate alocasia?

As an alocasia grows, it will produce additional plants or suckers. These can be divided by root division. Carefully remove the alocasia from the soil and gently remove the soil away from the roots so you can determine where to separate the plants. Use a sharp pair of scissors or knife and separate them. You may also notice small corms within the soil, these can be separated and transplanted into moist soil.
