Product Overview

Turbinado is sugar with a rich flavour. It makes cocoa, tea and coffee taste expensive. In fact, it’s an open secret among baristas, and we encourage you to try it on your favourite beverage.

So what makes it special? Turbinado has a perceptible molasses flavour. It adds a hint of caramel to drinks and baked goods. When used to make syrup, it creates a flavour that pairs well with pancakes.

This raw flavour however is not only for desserts. Wholesome’s Raw Cane Turbinado Sugar may be used to add a molasses taste to sauces and dressings. For more versatility, saturate a cup of water with turbinado and cook over medium heat until it thickens. Use it in place of honey or corn syrup.

Turbinado’s golden granules are also decorative and work great as edible glitter. To add a layer of crunch, sprinkle coloured turbinado on top of cakes or candied fruit, or go classic with plain turbinado.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is turbinado sugar?

Turbinado sugar is sugar that underwent minimal processing. The result is sugar with large, golden crystals and a rich flavour. Turbinado’s name comes from the word “turbina”, the Spanish word for turbine, describing the equipment with which the sugar is produced.

It is also high in moisture but has bigger granules, so the grains don’t easily melt during baking. When sprinkled on top of cookie batter, they come out of the oven crunchy and sparkly. When allowed to fully dissolve, it can add moisture to brownies, butterscotch and cakes.
