These artisanal cheeses are made with microbial fermentation and innovative aging methods. The way in which the Blue Heron cheesemongers support these microbiomes determines what attributes the cheeses form.
Blue Heron’s semi-soft cheeses can be presented on a cheese board with grapes, pickles, and preserves, or they can be used in cooking a wide variety of dishes. Additionally, these crumbly, sliceable cheeses can be eaten in bagels, salads, or pasta.
Blue Heron was founded on the west coast of British Columbia, and the name was inspired by migrations of the Great Blue Herons that live on the coast.
CEO Karen McAthy's book, The Art of Plant-based Cheesemaking, was first published in 2017 and won the vegan category award in the World Gourmand Cookbook awards.
