Is there anything better than the feeling of scooping a salty chip into a big fat bowl of guacamole? Actually, maybe there is - what about running a chunk of toasted pita through smooth hummus? No, no, wait, we’ve got it - what about a tortilla dripping with spicy salsa? Hold on a second, what about…

When it comes to delicious dips, the list is endless. If we had to do a tasting test, we wouldn’t be able to pick a favorite, but we would have a heck of a good time trying. Move over Romeo and Juliet, there is no better love story than the romance between a dip and anything you choose to shove in it.

Whatever transport method you choose, whether it’s a chip, a piece of pita, a chunk of bread, a carrot stick, or a slice of pizza, we all know you’re going to have a good time. There’s something unbeatable about the feeling of loading a little snack with a mouth-watering, creamy mix. And, with so many dips on offer from all over the world, you will never get bored.

Creamy queso. Brilliant baba ganoush. Subtle sour cream. Magic muhammara. Tangy tzatziki. Whatever you need, we’ve got you covered. Whether it’s a dinner party or a movie night, getting some dips in will start it off right. And, with the vegan dip market getting more exciting every day, this is only the beginning…

Where did dips come from?

It may not feel like it when you are scoffing your salsa in front of the TV, but, believe it or not, people have been dipping since the 13th century. Most of the iconic dips we still adore today have been with us for hundreds of years. Guacamole was pioneered by the Aztecs. Tzatziki dates back to 17th-century Greece. Salsa began with the Incas. Hummus has been enjoyed since the 1200s. Clearly, the idea of a thick sauce perfect for dipping has taken off, and the much-loved recipes have stood the test of time.

Dips have been mastered all over the world, and thanks to this, we can now enjoy a vast array of flavors on our tables. There is nothing like a dip to get an iconic and authentic taste of a country in one mouthful. One buffet can get you traveling around the world! So, it almost feels like dipping is part of a worldwide culture. To us, this feels like just another reason to keep it up. Who are we to say no to our heritage?… Pass the guac!

What are the best dips for vegans?

The world of vegan dips is a beautiful, beautiful place. While a lot of dips are already vegan, more and more plant-based alternatives are popping up every day. If anything, there’s too much choice!

Let’s start with some classics. Vegan or not, hummus is an everyday go-to for every household. Hummus is that easy-going old friend that gets on with everyone. And, with loads of funky variations, like beetroot, sweet potato coconut, and even Thai coconut curry, you won’t get bored. Other vegan old friends include guacamole and salsa. (If you are not buying from PlantX, just verify no pesky dairy has been added before buying).

But the vegan options don’t stop there. Oh no. Thanks to plant-based pioneering, now vegans can enjoy ‘dairy’ dips too. Vegan Queso is a prime example. Spicy. Cheesy. Delicious. Enjoy this one on us. French onion dip is another show-stopper that showcases plant-based creamy onion flavors. Or, get some Buffalo dip in to experience that ranch zing once more.

Our final recommendations? Try some lesser-known dips and you will be in for a treat. Baba ganoush is a Lebanese tahini-infused smoky eggplant delight that doesn’t need dairy to give us big flavors. What about Muhammara? This Syrian roasted pepper and chili dip will truly knock your socks off.

What is the best thing to dip into dips?

In the dip world, there are a few classic pairs. Hummus and pita have got a romance we don’t want to get between. Nachos and salsa have got chemistry it’s not worth missing out on. French onion dip isn’t the same without a classy potato chip.

However, when it comes to dipping, there is always room for new ideas. We are always ready to discover the new hot combos. And, sometimes the random snacks you find in the back of the fridge turn out to make mind-blowing flavor combinations. Whether you want to dip last night’s pizza into tomorrow’s beet hummus, or you are finessing your fries with a few dollops of salsa, we don’t care! You do you. Get creative and enjoy the ride.

Are dips just for dipping?

Absolutely not! Obviously, dips are great for dipping, that’s a no-brainer. However, the thing about dips is, there are no rules! Freedom is the name of the game and your tastebuds will be rewarded for culinary creativity. Whether you want to experiment with new recipes or cut old recipes short, dips are the answer.

Try stirring some spoonfuls of hummus into a roasted veg couscous. How about spooning some vegan french onion dip over your potatoes for a potato salad with added flair. Mixing some salsa into an enchilada mix also wouldn’t go amiss. And, don’t forget, slathering dips into sandwiches is always a possibility. Get creative! We dare you.

What’s the deal with homemade dips?

Shop-bought dips are always delish and couldn’t be easier to snaffle. There is nothing better than an evening dipping session that was meant to be a snack but turned into a meal. And, if you don’t feel like cooking, what’s the point?

However, the world of homemade dips is also a very exciting place too. Especially for vegans! Especially when you are craving hummus but the shops are shut! Here are 4 reasons why you should try making your own dip…

1. It’s easier than it looks.

While dips may taste like culinary masterpieces, the recipes are often really simple to make at home. As long as you have a blender, the world is your oyster. For example, try blending some chickpeas, garlic, lemon, oil, and tahini. In just a few minutes, you will have hummus! What about guacamole? Mashed avocado, spices, and lime are all you need to bring that creamy, dreamy green treat to life. Mix in some tomato and onion and you have yourself an absolute treat!

2. It opens up a world of opportunities for vegans...

For vegans, homemade dips are game-changers. Take tzatziki for example. You may not be able to find a ready-made vegan alternative online, but you may already have all of the ingredients at home. Cucumber, vegan plain yogurt, garlic, dill, and lemon juice are all you need! If you are craving your favorite dip, but it’s not on the market, get your apron on and give it a go!

3. They will probably be a little healthier.

Fresh homemade food will always have the added plus of being a little healthier. If you decide to give homemade dips a go, you can enjoy them guilt-free, safe in the knowledge you know exactly what’s in them!

4. Bragging rights!

If you are inviting your friends over for dinner, nothing will impress them more than knowing you made your dips from scratch. Big time bragging rights at your disposal.
